Mocha Pro is a planar tracker for visual effects work. It tracks surfaces, builds roto mattes, removes objects, stabilizes shots and solves 3D cameras. It runs as a plugin in After Effects, Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Nuke, Fusion, Flame and other OFX hosts, or as a standalone app on macOS, Windows and Linux. A single host licence costs $37 a month, $295 a year or $695 once, and you can try it free for 14 days.
What Mocha Pro does
Mocha Pro is built around planar tracking. Instead of following single pixels, it follows a flat surface through a shot, such as a phone screen, a wall or a sign. Following a whole surface holds up better under motion blur and partial occlusion than following points, and every other module in the program reuses the same track: roto shapes, object removal, stabilization, screen inserts and lens correction.
Version 2026.5 adds Point Track ML, a machine learning tracking mode inside PowerMesh and AdjustTrack for surfaces that turn away from the camera or pass behind other objects. It also adds Auto ROI for the AI matte tools, PowerMesh vertex curves in the Curve Editor, export to multi layer EXR, and Windows ARM support for the Adobe plugin and the standalone app. The full Mocha Pro review weighs these additions against the price.

Which edition you need
The same tracking engine ships in several products. The full product is the subject of this guide. Mocha AE and Mocha Vegas are cut down editions for a single host each, focused on planar tracking and roto. A Mocha module is also built into the Continuum and Sapphire plugin suites to drive their effects. The Mocha Pro vs Mocha AE comparison lists the modules that only the full product has.
Licences are tied to hosts. A single host licence covers one plugin family, Adobe, OFX or Avid. A multi host licence lets you run the tracker in several hosts on the same workstation. Floating licences and enterprise deals are quoted by the sales team. The Mocha Pro pricing breakdown sets out each option and when it pays off.
How to start
The trial and the paid version use the same installer, which comes through the Boris FX Hub app. You install the Hub, add the plugin for your host or the standalone app, register for the 14 day trial and start tracking. A paid licence then activates the same installation, so you do not need to reinstall.
The Mocha Pro download and trial page lists the install steps and the licensing details to check first. Once it is installed, the After Effects tracking walkthrough takes you from applying the effect to a finished screen replacement.
One planar track drives the roto, the removal, the insert and the stabilize. Try it for 14 days before you pick a licence.

Frequently asked questions
What is Mocha Pro used for?
It is used for planar tracking, rotoscoping, object and wire removal, stabilization, screen inserts, lens calibration and 3D camera solves. Visual effects artists use it to track surfaces that point trackers lose, then drive mattes and composites from that track.
Is Mocha Pro a plugin or a standalone program?
Both. It installs as a plugin for Adobe, OFX and Avid hosts and also as a standalone application on macOS, Windows and Linux. Python scripting is included in both versions.
Is there a free version of Mocha Pro?
There is no free edition of the full product, but a 14 day trial is available through the Boris FX Hub. Mocha AE, a cut down edition, comes with Adobe After Effects.
How much does Mocha Pro cost?
The single host plugin costs $37 a month, $295 a year or $695 for a perpetual licence with one year of upgrades and support. A multi host licence costs $75 a month, $595 a year or $1495 perpetual. Prices were read on the vendor site on 8 November 2026.
Which hosts does it support?
The vendor lists Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and through OFX Autodesk Flame, Silhouette, Nuke, Blackmagic Fusion, Vegas Pro and SGO Mistika. The vendor's host table gives the exact supported versions.
